Kamakhya Ram Barooah Girls' College

Kamakhya Ram Barooah Girls' College, situated at the M.B. Road, Fatasil, Guwahati was established on 14TH of April, 1971. The objective behind was to establish an higher educational institution specially for women in the western part of the Guwahati city. Initiative was taken by some prominent citizens of the locality. The plot of land was obtained from the Government of Assam. The fund for construction of the main college building and development of the college was donated by Late Prabir Ram Barooah, the worthy son of Late Kamakhya Ram Barooah, eminent Advocate, social worker, Philanthropist and a pioneer of advancement of women education in Assam. The foundation stone was laid by Late Mahendra Mohan Chaudhury, the then Chief Minister of Assam. Since then the college is striving for the enlightenment, progress and all round development of the young women student of the locality. In the year 2021 college is completing fifty years of existence. Throughout these years the college has produced a good number of well established professionals in various fields.

The college is permanently affiliated to Gauhati University since 1997-98 vide executive Council resolution No. 99/4/57 dt.13.2.1999

The college is registered under section 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 vide letter No.F8-43/98 (CPP-1) since 10th June, 1999. Accordingly the college is eligible to receive financial assistance from the UGC.



The first cycle of NAAC visit was completed in the year 2004 where NAAC accorded 'B' Grade to the college. The second cycle of NAAC visit was in September, 2015 where again the College has been reaccredited with 'B' Grade.
